The paper presents the results of an application of the asynchronous parallel genetic algorithm PGA to optimization of continuous functions. The algorithm is explained in biological terms. The problem of performance evaluation of this probabilistic search algorithm is discussed and the behavior of PGA on parallel processors is investigated. Also, a comparison of the numerical results with other random search methods is made.
