Given a right module \(M_ R\) over a ring \(R\) with identity we denote by \(\sigma[M_ R]\) a minimal full subcategory of the category \(\text{Mod}(R)\) of unitary right \(R\)-modules which contains \(M_ R\) and is closed under submodules, homomorphic images and direct sums. A module \(N_ R\) is said to be \(M_ R\)-nonsingular if for any nonzero \(R\)- homomorphism \(f: N\to M\) the \(R\)-submodule \(\text{Ker }f\) of \(M_ R\) is not essential in \(M_ R\). The main result of the paper asserts that \(M_ R\) is a module of finite length and the category \(\sigma[M_ R]\) is equivalent to a category of all right modules over a right artinian ring if \(M_ R\) is a finitely generated \(M_ R\)-nonsingular module such that every \(M_ R\)-nonsingular \(R\)-module \(N_ R\) is a direct summand of a direct sum of copies of \(M_ R\).
