A result is proved concerning the global existence and asymptotic behavior of solutions of the problem \(u_ t=\int_ 0^ t a(t- \tau)\sigma(u_ x)_ x d\tau+f(t,x)\), \(t\geq 0\). Here \(x\in (0,1)\), and one adds an initial condition at \(t=0\), and Dirichlet boundary conditions for \(t>0\). The data is supposed to be small, but in contrast to earlier known results, it is not required that \(f(t)\to 0\) as \(t\to\infty\). Instead it is assumed that \(f\) is asymptotically periodic, with a sufficiently short period. Under suitable additional smoothness and smallness assumptions the existence of an asymptotically periodic solution is established.
