The paper presents a family of variational principles (VPs) for the three-dimensional transonic steady potential and rotational flows with shocks. The essential feature of the paper lies in taking advantage of the natural boundary condition and functional variation with variable domain. Therefore all boundary conditions accross flow discontinuities have been converted into natural ones. This investigation is intended to provide a theoretical basis for developing a new computational method for capturing automatically all flow discontinuities. The VPs obtained are just the generalizations of well-known Bateman's principle and are applicable to internal as well to external transonic flows.
