The author associates dual systems to distributed control systems and discusses relationships between their optimal values. He uses Hamiltonians instead of conjugate functions in deriving the dual control systems with time varying control constraints and with convex (not necessarily quadratic) cost functionals. His approach is based on an infinite-dimensional version of the duality theorem and the main objective is to prove a duality theorem under general conditions within an infinite-dimensional framework. An example of its application is also given.
