The radial Schrödinger equation has the form \(\ddot u-[{{\ell(\ell+1)} \over {t^ 2}}-{2 \over t}]u+\lambda u=0\), \(0<t<\infty\); when \(\ell=0\) we have the limit-circle case at zero. The eigenvalue problem for all boundary conditions was solved by Rellich. In the paper an alternative treatment is given which is based on variation methods.
