Let \(B\) be a commutative algebra over a field \(F\) and let \(\omega\) be a nontrivial homomorphism from \(B\) to \(F\). The pair \((B,\omega)\) is called a baric algebra. A baric algebra satisfying \((x^2)^2=x^2\omega(x)^2\) is called a Bernstein algebra. It is known that a Bernstein algebra has an idempotent \(e\) and a Pierce decomposition relative to \(e\), \(B=eF\dot+U_e\dot+Z_e\) where \(U_e=\{x\in\ker\omega\mid ex=x/2\}\) and \(U_e=\{x\in\ker\omega\mid ex=0\}\). A Bernstein algebra is called regular if \(U_eZ_e=Z_e^2=0\) and exceptional if \(U_e^2=0\). The authors find generators of the ideal of polynomial identities for regular Bernstein algebras and for exceptional Bernstein algebras with \(U_eZ_e=0\).
