The paper investigates shock capturing spectral methods to simulate compressible flows in the presence of shock waves. The applications are found in the study of turbulence in high speed flow and in the design of supersonic jet in aerodynamics. In the later case, the paper deals with two-dimensional shock-vortex interactions. The numerical methods are based on Chebyshev and Fourier collocation. The Euler equations of gas dynamics are discretized by pseudospectral (collocation) methods in space and by a nonlinearly stable third-order Runge-Kutta method in time. The methods are stabilized by introducing grid transformation and filtering into the spectral scheme. The numerical results indicate that the spectral method is well suited not only for smooth problems, but also for those with a discontinuity.
