Hayman and Wu proved that for any simply connected domain \(\Omega\) and any Riemann mapping \(F\) onto the unit disk \(D\), \(F: \Omega\to D\), the derivative \(F'\in L^1(L\cap \Omega)\), where \(L\) is any line in the complex plane. Natural extensions of this result consider the questions of higher integrability and more general classes of curves. Fernandez, Heinonen and Martio first established that \(F'\in L^{1+ \varepsilon}(L\cap \Omega)\) and Bishop and Jones later extended the Hayman-Wu theorem by showing that \(F'\in L^1(\Gamma\cap \Omega)\) for all Ahlfors-David regular curves \(\Gamma\). A curve \(\Gamma\) is said to be Ahlfors-David regular if there exists a constant \(A\) such that \(\ell(\Gamma\cap B(x, r))\leq Ar\) for any disk \(B(x, r)\). In this paper, the author combines the above two generalizations into one extension. He proves that \(F'\in L^{1+ \varepsilon}(\Gamma\cap \Omega)\) for all Ahlfors-David regular curves \(\Gamma\), where the exponent \(\varepsilon\) is dependent only on the constant \(A\). The proof involves a stopping-time argument which seeks places in the curve \(\Gamma\) where small pieces may be added in order to control the portions of \(\Gamma\) where \(|F'|\) is large. Then, recent estimates of Bishop and Jones which guarantee that such sets of small length which lie inside a rectifiable curve have small harmonic measure are applied. In the cases \(\Gamma= \partial\Omega\) and \(\Gamma\subset \Omega\) separate proofs are provided which do not rely on these sophisticated harmonic measure estimates.
