The paper is a survey of approaches for handling optimization with elastic constraints. The material includes various formulations of optimization (maximization) problems with fuzzy objectives. It also elaborates on alternative methods or concepts for incorporating uncertainty into optimization problems, such as set theory and random sets. All of these topics are studied in the context of fuzzy control. A rationale behind the discussed formulations is clarified in detail. Furthermore several unifying concepts to be used in the discussed optimization tasks are proposed.
