    Wenn die Funktion \(w = a_0 + a_1z + a_2z^2 +\cdots \) algebraisch ist, so gibt es zwei positive ganze Zahlen \(m\) und \(n\) derart, daß, \[ w^k =a_0^{(k)} +a_1^{(k)}z +a_2^{(k)}z^2 +\cdots \] gesetzt, sämtliche Determinanten \(mn\)-ter Ordnung der Matrix \[ \begin{aligned} &a_{m +1}, \dots, a_1, a_{m +1}^{(2)},\dots,a_1^{(2)},\dots,a_{m +1}^{(n)},\dots,a_1^{(n)}\\ &a_{m +2}, \dots, a_2, a_{m +2}^{(2)},\dots,a_2^{(2)},\dots,a_{m +2}^{(n)},\dots,a_2^{(n)}\\ & \ldots\\ &a_{m +k}, \dots, a_k, a_{m +k}^{(2)},\dots,a_k^{(2)},\dots,a_{m +k}^{(n)},\dots,a_k^{(n)}\\ &\ldots\end{aligned} \] verschwinden. Umgekehrt, wenn sämtliche Determinanten \(mn\)-ter Ordnung der letzten Matrix verschwinden, so genügt \(w\) einer algebraischen Gleichung, deren Grad \(\leqq m\) in \(z\) und \(\leqq n\) in \(w\) ist.
