A weight system is a map from \(\mathcal{A}\) to a field \(R\) of characteristic \(0\). Here \(\mathcal{A}\) is the \(R\)-vector space generated by all trivalent diagrams with specific cycles, modulo the so-called STU relation. Due to M.~Kontsevich and D.~Bar-Natan, \(\mathcal{A}\) plays an essential rĂ´le in the theory of Vassiliev invariants, i.e., any weight system defines via the Kontsevich integral a Vassiliev invariant and vice versa [\textit{D. Bar-Natan}, Topology 34, No.~2, 423-472 (1995; Zbl 0898.57001)]. It is well known that a Lie algebra and its representation define a weight system in a natural way. By using a graph theoretic idea, \textit{S. V. Chmutov, S. V.~Duzhin} and \textit{S. K.~Lando} [Vassiliev knot invariants II: Intersection graph conjecture for trees, Adv. Sov. Math. 21, 127-134 (1994; Zbl 0956.57010)]; Vassiliev knot invariants III: Forest algebra and weighted graphs, ibid. 21, 135-145 (1994; Zbl 0956.57011)] defined a chromatic weight system, which can be defined by a similar way as the chromatic polynomial. In this paper the author shows that the chromatic weight system is a linear combination of weight systems associated with the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{gl}_{n}\) and also a linear combination of those of \(\mathfrak{so}_{n}\). As a corollary the author defines a knot invariant \(\varUpsilon\) which is a one-parameter specialization of both the HOMFLY and the Kauffman polynomial and show that \(\varUpsilon\) is as strong as the chromatic weight system.
