Following a review of the generalized minimum residual (GMRES) method, the authors outline the modified generalized minimum residual (MGMRES) method and describe a Lanczos type method, called LAN/MGMRES method. First, the authors state several important conditions for Krylov subspace methods and idealized generalized conjugate gradient methods and the phases of their orthogonal implementations. Then, the GMRES method of \textit{Y. Saad} and \textit{M. H. Schultz} [SIAM J. Sci. Stat. Comput. 7, 856-869 (1986; Zbl 0599.65018)] and the MGMRES method are sketched. Based on the MGMRES method the LAN/MGMRES method is described. No numerical experiments.
