    Let \(B\) be a block of a finite group \(G\) with defect group \(D\) and Cartan matrix \(C\). Moreover, let \(EV\) and \(ED\) denote the multisets of eigenvalues respectively elementary divisors of \(C\), and set \(\rho(C) := \max(EV)\). In [J. Algebra 308, No. 2, 629--640 (2007; Zbl 1119.20014)], \textit{T. Wada} conjectured that the following conditions are equivalent: \begin{itemize} \item[(1)] \(EV = ED\); \item[(2)] \(\rho(C) = |D|\); \item[(3)] \(\rho(C) \in\mathbb Z\); \item[(4)] \(EV \subseteq\mathbb Z\). \end{itemize} Obviously, \((1) \Longrightarrow (2) \Longrightarrow (3) \Longleftarrow (4) \Longleftarrow (1)\) holds. The author shows that the principal \(5\)-block of \(\mathrm{PSU}_3(4)\) is an example where the implication \((3) \Longrightarrow (1)\) does not hold. The same example also gives a negative answer to the following question by \textit{M. Kiyota} et al. [J. Algebra 249, No. 1, 110--119 (2002; Zbl 1019.20006)]: Is \(B\) Morita equivalent to its Brauer correspondent in \(\mathrm{N}_G(D)\) whenever \(D\) is abelian and \(\rho(C) =|D|\)? In addition, the author provides a counterexample to a related conjecture of \textit{T. Wada} [J. Algebra 281, No. 1, 306--331 (2004; Zbl 1070.20014)] on possible connections between \(EV\) and \(ED\).
