This article continues the series of papers by the two authors devoted to the study of (singular) convolution operators on nilpotent Lie groups, whose first two articles appeared [ibid. 73, 179-194 (1987; Zbl 0622.42010) and 78, 56-84 (1988; Zbl 0645.42019)]. In this third paper, the authors assume that the underlying nilpotent Lie group G is homogeneous, i.e. endowed with automorphic dilations, and they investigate operators of convolution by ``fractional integration kernels'' \(K^{\alpha}\) along homogeneous, connected, analytic manifolds V in G not containing 0. These are locally finite measures \(K^{\alpha}\) supported on \(V\cup \{0\}\) having smooth densities on V, which are homogeneous of degree -Q(1-\(\alpha)\), \(0<Re \alpha \leq 1\), in the sense of distributions, where Q denotes the homogeneous dimension of G. The following three interrelated problems, whose formulation is taken from the introduction to the paper, are discussed: (a) find the \(L^ p\)- L\({}^ q\)-boundedness properties of the corresponding convolution operators; (b) find the \(L^ 2\)-boundedness properties of the ``highly singular integral'' operators obtained by composing a fractional integration along V with a fractional derivation of complementary homogeneity; (c) find the \(L^ 2\)-boundedness properties of oscillatory integral operators of the form \[ Tf(x)=\int_{V}f(xy^{- 1})e^{iP(x,y)}dK^{\alpha}(y), \] where P is a real polynomial.
