Let \(U_q(so_{2n})\) be the Drinfel'd-Jimbo quantum group, with vector representation \(V\). Let \(\varepsilon\) be the highest weight of one of the spinor representations of \(U_q(so_{2n})\), and suppose that \(m\) is a positive integer. Let \(V_{m\varepsilon}\) be the irreducible \(U_q(so_{2n})\)-module with highest weight \(m\varepsilon\). Since \(U_q(so_{2n})\) is a Hopf algebra, it acts naturally on the tensor product \(V_{m\varepsilon}\otimes V^{\otimes r}\) for an arbitrary positive integer \(r\). Let \(G\) be the braid group of type \(B_r\). The authors show that \(U_q(so_{2n})\) and \(G\) are each others commutant on \(V_\varepsilon\otimes V^{\otimes r}\), provided \(m=1\) or \(N\) is even. They further show that the representations of \(G\) afforded by the modules \(V_{m\varepsilon}\otimes V^{\otimes r}\) factor through specializations of Häring-Oldenburg's type B BMW-algebra; \textit{R. Häring-Oldenburg} [J. Algebra 213, No. 2, 437--466 (1999; Zbl 1017.20002)]. This enables them to compute the weights of the Markov trace of this algebra as a function of \(2\) variables, and the parameter values for which it is semisimple. The methods used in the paper are similar to those used in \textit{H. Wenzl} [Commun. Math. Phys. 133, 383--432 (1990; Zbl 0744.17021)], but the paper follows a more quantum group-theoretic approach; see \textit{R. Leduc} and \textit{A. Ram} [Adv. Math. 125, 1--94 (1997; Zbl 0936.17016)].
