[For part I, cf. the author, J. Algebra 277, No. 1, 236-255 (2004; Zbl 1068.20004).] Let \(G\) be a finite \(p\)-group, where \(p\) is a prime number and let \(\chi\) be an irreducible complex character of \(G\) of degree \(p^n\). Then the character \(\chi\overline\chi\) has at least \(2(p-1)n+1\) distinct irreducible constituents (Theorem A). If \(n=1\), then the number of irreducible constituents equals \(2(p-1)+1\) or \(p^2\). If \(\chi(1)>p\), then that number is at least \(4p-3\). Using wreath products, the author shows that the estimate of Theorem A is attained.
