An isometric immersion \(\varphi : M^n \to E^m\) is said to be of coordinate finite type if there exists a coordinate system of \(E^m\) with respect to which the coordinate functions \(x_i\) (\(i = 1,\dots, m\)) of the position vector \(\varphi\) are eigenfunction of the Laplace operator \(\Delta\). In this paper the author proves that: The only coordinate finite type and connected surfaces in \(E^4\) with constant mean curvature are the open parts of (1) a minimal surface in \(E^4\), (2) a minimal surface in some \(S^3\), (3) a helical cylinder and (4) a flat torus in some \(S^3\). The coordinate finite type and compact surfaces in \(E^4\) were classified by the reviewer and \textit{Th. Vlachos} [Geom. Dedicata 37, No. 2, 155-165 (1991; Zbl 0718.53044)].
