Reductions to subspace categories of vectorspace categories form one of the present favourite tools for the study of finite dimensional \(k\)-algebras \(A\) of tame representation type over an algebraically closed field \(k\). We continue our research on the vectorspace category \((K(A,P),\text{Hom}_A(P,-))\) where \(P\) is an indecomposable projective \(A\)-module such that \(\text{End}_A(P)\cong k\) and \(K(A,P)\) is the full subcategory of the category of finite dimensional \(A\)-modules consisting of those \(V\) satisfying \(\text{Ext}^1_A(V,\text{fac }P)=0\). It was shown by the author [in Math. Z. 216, No. 4, 645-656 (1994; Zbl 0812.16018)] that the subspace tameness of this vectorspace category characterizes tame representation type of \(A\). To apply this result in practice, one has to know \((K(A,P),\text{Hom}_A(P,-))\) rather precisely. In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition that this vectorspace category can be calculated using Hom-functors which act on two module categories over algebras of strictly smaller dimension than \(A\). Hence these module categories may be supposed to be known by induction. For the class of algebras having preprojective and preinjective components, which seems to be of current interest, we develop our results to very precise algorithms for the calculation of \((K(A,P),\text{Hom}_A(P,-))\).
