Calculation of the slip coefficient of rarefied gas interacting with the surface of a solid is based on two variational principles developed by the authors. These principles differ from considered earlier primarily in that the minimax property of the extremum of their functionals is established. The value of the slip coefficient turns out to be equal to the minimal value of the functional of the first variational principle, and the maximal value of the functional of the second variational principle.
