A closed \emph{geometric} \(n\)-manifold \(M\) is the quotient \(\mathbb{X}^n/\Gamma\) of a simply connected complete Riemannian \(n\)-manifold \(\mathbb{X}^n\) by a discrete subgroup \(\Gamma\) of the isometry group \(\mathrm{Isom}(\mathbb{X}^n)\) of \(\mathbb{X}^n\) such that \(\mathrm{Isom}(\mathbb{X}^n)\) acts transitively on \(\mathbb{X}^n\). In this article, the authors give an axiomatic definition of the \emph{Kodaira dimension}, and compute the Kodaira dimension \(\kappa^g(M)\) of any closed geometric manifold \(M\) of dimension \(n \leqslant 5\). They also prove that if \(M\) and \(N\) are closed oriented geometric \(5\)-manifolds and if there is a map \(M \rightarrow N\) of nonzero degree, then \(\kappa^g(M) \geqslant \kappa^g(N)\).
