Improved monochromatic double stars in edge colorings (Q2121489)

The main result of this paper is the following: Let \(\delta = 1/ 1500r^9\). For \(r \geq 3\) there is a monochromatic double star with at least \(((n(r+1)+r-1))/r^2 +\delta n\) vertices in any \(r\)-coloring of the edges of \(K_n\). This gives a slight improvement on the bound proposed by \textit{A. Gyárfás} and \textit{G. N. Sárközy} [ibid. 24, No. 6, 531--536 (2008; Zbl 1177.05040)].
