After the publication of a monograph on spaces of functions of bounded variation and operators in such spaces [the reviewer et al., Bounded variation and around. Berlin: de Gruyter (2014; Zbl 1282.26001)], considerable progress in the field has been made, mainly by Polish mathematicians, and several problems stated as open in the monograph have been solved. In this paper, the author proves new continuity results for the Nemytskij operator \(Fx(t)= f (t,x(t))\) generated by some function \(f: [0,1]\times\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\), mainly in the space \(\Lambda BV [0,1]\) of functions of bounded Waterman variation. The results reflect the well-known phenomenon that good regularity properties of the function \(f\) do not imply good regularity properties of the corresponding operator \(F\), or vice versa.
