The article under review is concerned with the cohomology of \(p\)-restricted Lie algebras. The author investigates spin-offs for the cohomology of \(p\)-restricted Lie algebras from the general scheme of cohomology for universal algebras in the sense of Quillen and Barr-Beck. More specifically, a Beck module is an abelian group object of the slice category over a fixed object. Dokas constructed in [\textit{I. Dokas}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 186, No. 1, 33--42 (2004; Zbl 1040.18011)] a ring \(w(L)\) for a \(p\)-restricted Lie algebra \(L\) such that the category of Beck modules over \(L\) are is equivalent to the category of \(w(L)\)-modules. \textit{J. Duskin} [Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 163, 135 p. (1975; Zbl 0376.18011)] interpretes cotriple cohomology in terms of torsors. As Dokas shows in [loc. cit.] that the set of equivalence classes of abelian extensions of restricted Lie algebras is in bijection with the first space of cotriple or Quillen-Barr-Beck cohomology, he obtaines from the exact sequence of torsors in [\textit{A. M. Cegarra} and \textit{E. R. Aznar}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 39, 197--250 (1986; Zbl 0587.18007)] a five-term exact sequence in Quillen-Barr-Beck cohomology for \(p\)-restricted Lie algebras associated to an extension. The author shows further that the categories of crossed modules and that of internal groupoids in the category of \(p\)-restructed Lie algebras are equivalent. He establishes the natural link between 2-fold extensions and 2-torsors, together with a Baer-sum construction, thus leading to an isomorphism of groups. The article closes with an extension of the above exact sequence to an eight-term exact sequence (based on Cegarra-Aznar's [loc. cit.] eight term exact sequence and Dokas' interpretation of 2-fold extensions in terms of Quillen-Barr-Beck cohomology) and an application to extensions of algebraic groups.
