A quasitoric manifold is an orientable \(2n\)-dimensional manifold \(M\) with an action of a compact \(n\)-dimensional torus \(T\), locally isomorphic to the standard action on \({\mathbb{C}}^n\), such that the orbit space is an \(n\)-dimensional simple polytope. The paper at hand is a contribution to the homotopy theory of quasitoric manifolds. In the spirit of the cohomological rigidity problem, which asks whether two quasitoric manifolds having isomorphic cohomology rings are homeomorphic, the main theorem of this paper states that two quasitoric manifolds of dimension \(\leq 2p^2-4\), for a prime \(p\), with isomorphic cohomology rings have the same \(p\)-local stable homotopy type. The main tool in the proof is a generalization of the Adams \(e\)-invariant for maps into CW complexes with only even-dimensional cells.
