For every bounded domain \(D\) of \({\mathbb R}^N\), every couple of positive continuous functions \(a\) and \(b\) on \(D\), and every \(p>1\) let \[ S_p(D)=\inf\left\{\int_D a(x)| \nabla v| ^p\,dx : v\in W^{1,p}_0(D),\;v\geq0\text{ a.e. in }D,\;\int_Db(x)v\,dx=1\right\}. \] The paper deals with the existence of optimal domains and the regularity of the relative minimizers giving the smallest value of \(S_p(D)\), when \(D\) ranges among all the subdomain with prescribed measure \(\int_D b(x)\,dx=m\) of a fixed bounded domain. Under suitable assumptions on \(a\) and \(b\) existence of an optimal domain and of a minimizer is proved.
