Generalizing earlier work of Lambert, Cayley and Ramanujan, \textit{F. Chapoton} [Algebr. Geom. Topol. 3, 1257--1273 (2003; Zbl 1059.18005)] introduced a sequence of polynomials \(Q_n=Q_n(x,y,z,t)\) with the definition \(Q_1=1\) and \(Q_{n+1}=[x+nz+(y+t)(n+y\partial_y)]Q_n\). The present paper proves the conjecture of Chapoton that \(Q_n(x,y,z,t)=Q_n(x+nz+nt,y,-t,-z)\) and provides combinatorial interpretation to these polynomials in terms of plane trees, forests of half-mobile trees, and forests of plane trees.
