Let \(G\) be a split reductive group over \({\mathbb Q}_p\) with connected centre and simply connected derived group. Let \(\text{Rep}_E (G)\) denote the category of admissible unitary continuous representations of \(G({\mathbb Q}_p)\) on a Banach space over a finite extension \(E\) of \({\mathbb Q}_p\). The first main result of the article is the non-existence of certain chains of three principal series representations in the category \(\text{Rep}_E(G)\). Another main result concerns the irreducible constituents of the representations constructed by \textit{C. Breuil} and \textit{F. Herzig} [Duke Math. J. 164, No. 7, 1271--1352 (2015; Zbl 1321.22019)]. Essential for the proofs are computations of Emerton's \(\partial\)-functor of derived ordinary parts.
