Let \(X\subset\mathbb P^{1} \times \mathbb P^{1}\) be a set of points. If \(X\) is arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) the geometric disposal of the points of \(X\) is well understood and it is possible to characterize the Hilbert functions of such schemes. If \(Y\) is a set of points lying on a \((1,0)\)-line (or \((0,1)\)-line) the authors study, under some condition, the connection between the Hilbert function of \(X\) and the Hilbert function of \(X\cup Y.\) By using these results, it is possible to compute the Hilbert function of particular, not ACM, subsets of points of \(\mathbb P^{1} \times \mathbb P^{1}.\)
