Let \(F : [a,b]\times\mathbb R^n \to\mathbb R^n\) be an integrably bounded multivalued map with convex, compact values such that \(t \mapsto F(t,x)\) is measurable for every \(x\), and \(x \mapsto F(t,x)\) is continuous for every \(t\). Using the Baire category method, the authors show that if the problem \[ x'(t) \in \operatorname{int}F(t,x(t)),\quad x(a)=u, x(b)=v; \] has a solution, then there exists an extremal solution \(y\) i.e. such that \[ y'(t) \in \operatorname{ext}F(t,y(t)),\quad y(a)=u, y(b)=v. \] They also present a counterexample showing that the analogous result is not valid for partial differential inclusions.
