The paper addresses a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the multidimensional space, with an \(x\)-dependent coefficient in front of the self-focusing nonlinear term: \[ i\varphi_t + \Delta\varphi + | x| ^b| \varphi| ^{p-2}\varphi = 0, \] where \(\Delta\) is the Laplacian, and constants are limited to ranges \(b>0\) and \(p > 2\). The paper reports a rigorous proof of the existence of collapsing (blowing-up) solutions to the initial-value problem for this equation, under certain conditions. For the same cases, it is proven that all stationary solutions of type \(\varphi(x,t) = \exp(-i\omega t) u(x)\) are strongly unstable.
