In the analysis of an operator on a Hilbert space with his self-commutator of trace class, the principal function gives much information about the structure of that operator. In this interesting paper, the authors give relations between the principal functions of an operator and his generalized Aluthge transforms. Applications are given to Berger's theorem and an index property.
