The author is interested in the existence of positive solutions of the elliptic system \(-\Delta u={{2\alpha}\over{\alpha+\beta}}u\left| u\right|^{\alpha-2} \left| v\right|^\beta +\epsilon f(x)\), \(-\Delta v={{2\beta}\over{\alpha+\beta}}u\left| u\right|^{\alpha} \left| v\right|^{\beta-2} +\varepsilon g(x)\) in a bounded domain \(\Omega\) of \({\mathbb R}^N\) (\(N\geq 3\)) under homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is assumed that \(f,g\in C^1(\overline{\Omega})\) are not identically \(0\) and \(\alpha,\beta>1\). The author shows that there exists an \(\varepsilon^\star>0\) such that the problem has a minimal solution for \(\varepsilon\in(0,\varepsilon^\star)\), and no solution for \(\varepsilon>\varepsilon^\star\), if a further technical hypothesis is fulfilled. Moreover, if \(N\geq 5\) and \(\alpha+\beta\leq {{2N}\over{N-2}}\), then there exists an \(\varepsilon_0\in (0,\varepsilon^\star)\) such that the problem has a second positive solution. Finally, conditions are formulated in the superlinear case which are necessary and sufficient for the existence of a positive solution for every \(\varepsilon>0\).
