This paper is concerned with the well-known Yau problem: classify compact hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb R^{N+1}\) which have constant scalar curvature. Are they isometric to \(S^N\)? This problem was solved affirmatively by Ros, in 1988, for embedded hypersurfaces. Thus, there remains the case when the hypersurfaces are immersed. In the reviewed paper the author gives a partial positive answer to a problem presented by Yau. He proves that a generalized rotational closed hypersurface in the Euclidean space with cohomogenity 2 and constant scalar curvature is a standard sphere. The proof is based on a classification of cohomogenity 2 orthogonal transformation groups obtained by \textit{W. Y. Hsiang} and \textit{H. B. Lawson} [J. Differ. Geom. 5, 1--38 (1971; Zbl 0219.53045)]. First the author, using a variational formula of Reilly, computes the scalar curvature and shows that some directional derivative never vanishes. Next, he examines the obtained condition for 14 types of cohomogenity 2 orthogonal transformation groups, separately.
