It is proved that under the continuum hypothesis (CH) a countably paracompact space X exists such that \(X\times X\) is a Dowker space (that is, a normal and not countably paracompact space), using a Lusin set in the real line. A subset L of the real line is called a Lusin set iff L is uncountable and every nowhere dense subset of L is countable. It is known that such sets exist under (CH). The theorem answers affirmatively a question of \textit{M. E. Rudin} and \textit{M.Starbird} [General Topol. Appl. 5, 235-248 (1975; Zbl 0305.54010)] of whether the product of two countably paracompact spaces can be a Dowker space.
