Let \(F\) be a \(p\)-adic field and \(G_n=\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\). This paper studies the branching problem for standard modules of \(G_n\). More precisely, the author proved the following result. Let \(\pi_1\) and \(\pi_2\) be standard modules of \(G_{n+1}\) and \(G_n\) respectively. Then one has \(\dim\Hom_{G_n}(\pi_1,\pi_2^\vee)=1\), and \(\mathrm{Ext}_{G_n}^i(\pi_1,\pi_2^\vee)=0.\) An immediate consequence of this result is to give a new proof on the multiplicity at most one theorem: if \(\pi_1,\pi_2\) are two irreducible representations of \(G_{n+1}, G_n\) respectively, then one has \(\dim\Hom_{G_n}(\pi_1,\pi_2)\le 1\). This was originally proved by Aizenbud-Gourevitch-Rallis-Schiffman using distribution theory. Over Archimedean local field \(F\), the author also established a similar Hom-multiplicity result for principal standard modules of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\) in the equal rank Fourier-Jacobi model case. A main tool of the proof is the notion of left-right Bernstein-Zelevinsky filtration.
