On modular projective representations of finite nilpotent groups (Q2717691)

Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(F\) an arbitrary field. The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a faithful irreducible projective representation of \(G\) over \(F\), under the assumption that \(G\) is nilpotent. The result depends on the investigation of the existence of simple twisted group algebras \(F^\lambda G\), and such algebras are described in the case of \(G\) Abelian. The most precise results on the existence of faithful irreducible \(\lambda\)-representations over \(F\) are obtained for \(G\) Abelian, and these generalize earlier results of the first author.
