For a class \(\mathcal A\) of modules the classes \(^\perp{\mathcal A}\) and \({\mathcal A}^\perp\) are defined in the following way: \(^\perp{\mathcal A}=\{B\in\text{Mod-}R\mid\text{Ext}_R(B,A)=0\text{ for each }A\in{\mathcal A}\}\), \(^\perp{\mathcal A}=\{B\in\text{Mod-}R\mid\text{Ext}_R(A,B)=0\text{ for each }A\in{\mathcal A}\}\). Recall, that a pair \((\mathcal{A,B})\) of classes of modules is called a cotorsion theory, if \({\mathcal A}^\perp={\mathcal B}\) and \(^\perp{\mathcal B}={\mathcal A}\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn the second part ``Cotorsion modules'' (after Preliminaries) the cotorsion theories generated by the classes of all cotorsion modules are investigated. Some special results are obtained for modules over domains. In the next item ``Tilting modules and tilting torsion classes'' the class \(\chi_T\) is characterized. This class consists of all direct summands of the modules \(X\) which are given by exact sequences \(0\to R^{(\lambda)}\to X\to T_2^{(\kappa)}\to 0\) for some cardinals \(\lambda\) and \(\kappa\), where \(T_2\) is defined by a short exact sequence \(0\to R\to T_1\to T_2\to 0\) with \(T_1,T_2\) in \(\text{Add}(T)\), the class of all direct summands of arbitrary direct sums of copies of the module \(T\). Among others it is shown that \(\text{Gen}(T)\)-envelopes, and hence divisible envelopes and FP-injective envelopes, may not exist in general.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe last paragraph ``Cotilting modules and cotilting torsionfree classes'' is devoted to cotorsion theories generated by cotilting modules. Over commutative rings the dual modules are used to relate the structural properties of cotilting modules and cotilting torsionfree classes to their tilting counterparts.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0960.00043].
