Factors of compact absolute fixed point sets (English)

Let \({\mathcal C}\) denote a class of topological spaces. A space \(X \in {\mathcal C}\) is an absolute fixed point set for \({\mathcal C}\), called an \(\text{AFS} ({\mathcal C})\)-space, if whenever \(X\) is embedded as a closed subset of a space \(Z\in {\mathcal C}\), then \(X\) is a fixed point set of some self-mapping of \(Z\). The author studies properties of factors of \(\text{AFS} ({\mathcal C})\)-spaces. Some relations between \(\text{AFS} ({\mathcal C})\)-spaces and \(\text{AR} ({\mathcal C})\)-spaces are also established. It is shown that every factor of an \(\text{AFS} ({\mathcal C})\)-space is an \(\text{AFS} ({\mathcal C})\)-space, however the product of a cube with a locally contractible and contractible space need not be an \(\text{AFS} ({\mathcal C})\)-space.
