Let \(v\) be a discrete rank one valuation of the field \(k((X_{1},\dots ,X_{n}))\) trivial on \(k.\) It is already known that the dimension of \(v\) does not exceed \(n-1\) [see \textit{E. Briales Morales}, Commun. Algebra 15, 1161-1177 (1989; Zbl 0696.13004)]. In this paper, it is proved that the dimension of \(v\) is positive when \(n\geq 2. \) The author also gives an explicit method to construct a discrete rank one valuation of \(k((X_{1},\dots ,X_{n}))\) whose dimension is any given number not exceeding \(n-1.\)
