The work is devoted to the problem of factorization in finite-codimensional ideals of group algebras of locally compact groups, i.e. the author expresses an arbitrary element of such an ideal as a sum of products: 1. If the group \(G\) is \(\sigma\)-compact, locally compact and \(\mathcal I\) is a closed two-sided ideal of finite codimension in \(L^1(G)\), then \(\mathcal I = \mathcal L + \mathcal R\), where \(\mathcal L\) is a closed left ideal in \(L^1(G)\) with a right bounded approximate identity and \(\mathcal R\) is a closed right ideal in \(L^1(G)\) with a left bounded approximate identity. Therefore the ideal \(\mathcal I\) is nilpotent in the sense \(\mathcal I^2 = \mathcal I\). It is shown that if \(G\) is amenable, an ideal \(\mathcal I\) in \(L^1(G)\) has a bounded approximate identity if and only if it is weakly complemented [see \textit{A. Ya. Helemskii}, The homology of Banach and topological algebras, Mathematics and its applications (Soviet series) 41, Kluwer, Dordrecht (1989; Zbl 0608.46046)] 2. The main aim of the author is here to consider the non-amenable case.
