Infinite dimensional linear groups: how we have studied them. (English)

This paper is essentially a survey of the work of the author and his collaborators (L. A. Kurdachenko in particular) on certain groups of automorphisms of potentially infinite-dimensional vector spaces (over fields). It consists of the statements of some 42 results with some link pieces but essentially without proofs. The groups involved usually satisfy some sort of, possibly weak, solubility, minimality or maximality condition.NEWLINENEWLINE Although, as the title suggests, the focus is very much on the work of these authors, there are very brief introductions to some other areas, for example to finitary linear groups. There are a large number of papers to be surveyed here; the paper cites 56 references. To have them listed in one place together with brief summaries of what they contain is certainly a very useful aid for those not yet working in the area.
