A selection theorem for set-valued maps into normally supercompact spaces (English)
    0 references
The class of supercompact spaces was introduced by \textit{J. de Groot} [in: Contrib. Extens. Theory topol. Struct., Proc. Sympos. Berlin 1967. 89--90 (1969; Zbl 0191.21202)]. A topological space \(X\) is said to be supercompact if it possesses a binary subbase for its closed subsets, where a subbase \({\mathcal S}\) of \(X\) is said to be binary if for each subcollection \({\mathcal S}'\) of \({\mathcal S}\) with \(\bigcap {\mathcal S}' = \emptyset\) there exist \(S_0, S_1 \in {\mathcal S}'\) such that \(S_0 \cap S_1 = \emptyset\). A subbase \({\mathcal S}\) of \(X\) which is closed both under finite intersections and finite unions is said to be normal if for every \(S_0, S_1 \in {\mathcal S}\) with \(S_0 \cap S_1 = \emptyset\) there exist \(T_0, T_1 \in {\mathcal S}\) such that \(S_0 \cap T_1 = \emptyset = T_0 \cap S_1\) and \(T_0 \cup T_1 = X\). A space possessing a binary normal subbase is said to be normally supercompact.NEWLINENEWLINEIn this paper, the author proves the following selection theorem: Let \(X\) be a normally supercompact space with a binary normal subbase \({\mathcal S}\) and \(Z\) an arbitrary space. Then every \({\mathcal S}\)-continuous set-valued map \(\Phi : Z \to X\) has a continuous single-valued selection provided all \(\Phi (z)\), \(z \in Z\), are \({\mathcal S}\)-convex closed subsets of \(X\). More generally, if \(A \subset Z\) is closed and every continuous map from \(A\) to \(X\) can be extended to a continuous map from \(Z\) to \(X\), then every continuous selection for \(\Phi|_A\) is extendable to a continuous selection for \(\Phi\). Applying this selection theorem, the author also proves that if \(X\) is a \(\kappa\)-metrizable (resp., \(\kappa\)-metrizable and connected) compactum with a normal binary closed subbase \({\mathcal S}\), then every open \({\mathcal S}\)-convex surjection \(f :X \to Y\) is a zero-soft (resp., soft) map, which provides \textit{A. V. Ivanov}'s results [Sov. Math., Dokl. 24, 60--64 (1981); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 259, 275--278 (1981; Zbl 0476.54019)], [Sov. Math., Dokl. 25, 68--70 (1982); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 262, 526--528 (1982; Zbl 0578.54019)] concerning superextensions of \(\kappa\)-metrizable compacta.
