This paper deals with the vibrations of a 1D non-uniform flexible body governed by the viscoelastic Kelvin-Voigt damping model, coupled, during the deformation process, with a dissipative effect of heating, governed by Cattaneo's law (second sound). The well-posedness of the system is established with the semigroup approach. The stability of the smooth solutions is studied for two sets of boundary conditions. In the first case, corresponding to a rigidly clamped structure with temperature held constant at both extremities, the authors prove that the stabilization process is at least polynomial, using the energy method and multiplier technique. In the second case, corresponding to a rigidly clamped structure with zero heat flux on the boundary, they prove by studying the resolvent of the system that the semigroup is exponentially stable.
