The paper contains two parts. The first one has a survey aspect where the authors explain how to construct fields of formal Laurent series in several variables. They put together many arguments and results found in the literature with a new point of view. The usual operations such as addition, multiplication, division and composition are defined. The second part includes a version of the implicit function theorem.
