In the paper, the following nonlinear Volterra integral operator is considered \[ V(x)(t)=x(t)+\int\limits_{\alpha}^t v(t,\tau,x(\tau))\, d\tau, \] where \[ t\in [\alpha,\beta], \; v:P_{\Delta}\times \mathbb{R}^n\to \mathbb{R}^n, \; n\geq 1, \; P_{\Delta}=\{(t,\tau)\in [\alpha,\beta]\times [\alpha,\beta]: \tau\leq t\}. \] The operator \(V\) is defined on the subspace of absolutely continuous functions \( AC_0^2([\alpha,\beta], \mathbb{R}^n)\) (the space of absolutely continuous functions defined on the interval \([\alpha,\beta]\) and satisfying the conditions \(x(\alpha)=0\) and \(x'\in L^2([\alpha,\beta], \mathbb{R}^n)\)). Some sufficient conditions for the operator considered to be a diffeomorphism are formulated. The proof of the main result relies in an essential way on a variational method. Applications of the obtained results to control systems with feedback and to a specific nonlinear Volterra equation are presented.
