The classical papers of \textit{A. Beurling} [The collected works of Arne Beurling. Volume 1: Complex analysis. Volume 2: Harmonic analysis. Boston etc.: Birkhäuser Verlag (1989; Zbl 0732.01042)], \textit{J.-P. Kahane} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 7, 293--314 (1957; Zbl 0083.34401)] and \textit{H. J Landau} [Acta Math. 117, 37--52 (1967; Zbl 0154.15301)], deal with the following problems in the Paley-Wiener and Bernstein settings: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] The sampling problem is concerned with a reconstruction of continuous signals from their samples; \item[(ii)] The interpolation problem is concerned with the possibility of representation of discrete functions on a uniformly discrete set as the traces of continuous signals. \end{itemize}} The aim of this paper is to present a simple method which stresses the duality between sampling and interpolation problems, and allows to simplify the proofs of classical results. For simplicity, the method is presented in the one-dimensional case.
