    It was proved in [\textit{J. J. Nieto} and \textit{R. Rodríguez-López}, Order 22, No. 3, 223--239 (2005; Zbl 1095.47013)] that a) Every continuous and nondecreasing contraction on a complete partially ordered metric space has a fixed point, and b) Every monotone and nondecreasing contraction has a fixed point. In this paper the authors extend this statement to cyclic contractions. Theorem 2.2. Let \(A\), \(B\) be two nonempty subsets of a metric space \((X,d)\), let \(A\) be complete, and ``\(\leq\)'' be a partially ordered relation on \(A\). Let \(T: A\cup B\to A\cup B\) be a cyclic mapping, \(T\) be continuous on \(A\) and \(T^2\) be nondecreasing on \(A\) and \(d(Tx', T^2x)\leq\alpha d(x',Tx)\) for some \(\alpha\in [0,1)\) and for all \((x,x')\in A\times A\) with \(x\leq x'\). If there exists \(x_0\in A\) with \(x_0\leq T^2 x_0\), then \(A\cap B\neq\emptyset\), hence \(T\) has a fixed point \(p\in A\cap B\). Moreover, if \(x_{n+1}= Tx_n\), then \(x_{2n}\to p\). Theorem 2.3. Let \(A\), \(B\) be two nonempty subsets of a metric space \((X,d)\), such that \(A\) is complete and satisfies the condition: ``if a nondecreasing sequence \(x_n\to x\), \(x\in X\), then \(x_n\leq x\), \(\forall n\)'', and let ``\(\leq\)'' be a partially ordered relation on \(A\). Let \(T: A\cup B\to A\cup B\) be a cyclic mapping such that \(T^2\) is nondecreasing on \(A\) and \(d(Tx', T^2x)\leq\alpha d(x',Tx)\) for some \(\alpha\in[0, 1)\) and for all \((x,x')\in A\times A\) with \(x\leq x'\). If there exists \(x_0\in A\) with \(x_0\leq T^2 x_0\), then \(A\cap B\neq\emptyset\), hence \(T\) has a fixed point \(p\in A\cap B\). Moreover, if \(x_{n+1}= Tx_n\), then \(x_{2n}\to p\). In the last section, several theorems on the existence and convergence of best proximity points for cyclic contractions are established.
