The central theme of this paper is the transformation of classical sequence spaces by means of real functions. More precisely, let \(A\) and \(B\) be sets of real sequences. We denote by \(F(A,B)\) the set of functions \(f: \mathbb R\to \mathbb R\) such that for every sequence \(\{a_n\}\in A\) is \(\{f(a_n)\}\in B\). Now, the author demonstrates some basic identities and inclusions for \(F(A,B)\) when \(A\) and \(B\) are well-known sequence spaces (e.g., \(\ell ^p\)-spaces). Further, linear and algebraic structure properties of \(F(A,B)\) are established, too. Finally, the paper presents in \S 3 some characterization theorems for \(F(A,B)\) in terms of easily described classes of functions \(f\). (E.g., \(f\in F(\ell ^{\infty }, \ell ^{\infty}) \Longleftrightarrow \forall \;n \in \mathbb N \;\exists \;M_n > 0\) such that \(|f(x)|< M_n \;\forall \;x\in (-n,n)\).) Here many profound results are given, which cover previous developments in this subject due to \textit{R.\ Rado} (1960), \textit{J.\ Borsík, J. Červeňanský} and \textit{T. Šalát} (1995-96).
