Let M be an elliptic surface, i.e. a \({\mathbb{C}}\)-analytic surface fibered over a nonsingular compact \({\mathbb{C}}\)-analytic curve S with general fibers \(T_ 1\), a 1-dimensional \({\mathbb{C}}\)-torus. Throughout this paper, it is assumed, that M \((1)\quad has\) no fiber containing exceptional curves of the first kind; \((2)\quad has\) at least one singular fiber; and \((3)\quad has\) no multiple singular fibers. Main theorem: Let \(\phi_ i: M_ i\to S_ i\) \((i=1,2)\) be elliptic surfaces, satisfying conditions (1)-(3). Then there exists an orientation preserving diffeomorphism \(f: M_ 1\to M_ 2\) iff \(g(S_ 1)=g(S_ 2)\) and \(e(M_ 1)=e(M_ 2)\) where g(S) (resp. e(M) is the genus of S (resp. the Euler number of M). In the special case where \(g(S)=0\), this result has been proved by \textit{A. Kas} [Complex analysis algebraic geometry, Collect. Papers dedic. K. Kodaira, 107-111 (1977; Zbl 0351.14017)]. Here, the author exploited the notion of Lefschetz fibrations of tori, introduced by \textit{B. Moishezon} [''Complex surfaces and connected sums of complex projective planes'', Lecture Notes Math. 603 (1977; Zbl 0392.32015)]. The main part of the paper extends Moishezon's calculation of monodromies over Riemann surfaces of genus \(0\) to surfaces of arbitrary genera.
